THE FIELD's 2016 full-length offering THE FOLLOWER (KOMPAKT 350 CD 130) is a masterful blend of hypnotic loops, gloomy drones and a newly-found snappishness, making it one of the most rythmically and texturally engaging listening experiences in Axel Willner's catalogue - and album cut REFLECTING LIGHTS sees the Swedish soundsmith at his most refined, drawing on richly modulated kraut influences as well as his often-quoted appreciation of Wolfgang Voigt's GAS project. The result is a stunning 14-minute epic slowly moving from the atmospheric synth hum and grainy percussion of its first bars to the dramatic piano cascade of its final beats. For this remix package, two exceptional electronic artists present their highly distinctive takes on the track: while Bay Area composer KAITLYN AURELIA SMITH infuses the ambient drift of the original with a brightly colored, heartwarming palette of sounds and voices, former Walls member NOT WAVING switches to a more rugged methodology, recalling the distorted lo-fi techno and obscure tape industrial references on his current album "Animals" on Powell's Diagonal imprint. Both remixes provide the listener with an exhilarating stylistic range and a taste for adventure that perfectly suits The Field's sound cosmos.
